Effectively Controlling Layer Ammonia with EM Technology®
Introduced in 1982, EM Technology® is widely used in over 120 countries in all forms of agriculture and livestock management to clean water, control odor, manage wastes, and promote healthier animals. One of the most common animals it has been used with is chickens.
-
Reduce levels of harmful pathogens
-
Reduce ammonia levels
-
Prevent corrosion
EM Technology® is offered as a liquid microbial product including several strains of naturally-occurring microbes from three groups: Yeast, Photosynthetic Bacteria, and Lactic Acid Bacteria. EM Technology® contains dozens of enzymes (including lipase, protease, and cellulase), trace minerals, amino acids, and vitamins (including B1, B2, B6, B9, and B12) that help it establish a pleasant environment with safer levels of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. It helps control pathogens by competitive exclusion, controls and reduces odors in livestock operations.
Optimal health of the poultry operation is achieved when EM Technology® is applied from the time young chicklets arrive from the hatchery, until the day they leave. TeraGanix offers two solutions, Lt1000™, and Wt1000™ to help maintain healthy poultry operations.
Cleaning The House With Lt1000™
Users of Lt1000™ will typically see ammonia levels as low as 0ppm (average 5-6ppm). Ammonia supports putrefaction and pathogen growth. Lt1000™ has an antioxidant effect and resists putrefaction, prevents noxious odors, and controls pathogen growth. The high levels of antioxidants in the Wt1000™ also prevent corrosion on metals and concrete.
The method below is for egg operations (layers). Apply Lt1000™ through a misting or fogging system to control the odors in the poultry houses.
Setting up a fogger would be ideal to run constantly to suppress ammonia. That would be at a 1:100 solution. Set on a timer to alternate sprays at 3-5 minute intervals and run for 30 seconds to 1 minute. The fogger would cycle longer in the winter when there is less ventilating and less in the summer when there is more ventilating.
Prior to Placement of Birds
(Follow instructions below as often as possible to keep area clean as possible):
-
Use Lt1000™ to clean poultry housing and cages.
-
Spray & wash all surfaces of poultry housing with a diluted solution of Lt1000™ in water at a 1:500 ratio.
-
Allow to air dry.
-
Total Lt1000™ per house will vary by size of the house and the age of the litter.
Manure Pits
Some laying operations have manure pits where the droppings are scraped and and dumped into a pit.
-
Calculate the size of the pit in either tons or volume of liquid.
-
Divide that number by 2 if by tons or by 1000 if by liquid.
-
Apply that number of gallons of Wt1000 per month directly into pit to control odors and digest wastes.
Lagoons
Some laying operations also have lagoons. Lagoons are inoculated at a rate of 1 part Wt1000 to 10,000 parts waste water on a monthly basis (100 gallons per million gallons).
Wt1000™ can be applied simply by pouring into the lagoon once per month. Some operations choose to set up dosing pumps and run in the effluent from the facility. Either way works.
There is no need to agitate the lagoon, unless it is pretty full of solids. If this is the case, increase dosage to three or four times per month to digest solids.
